First Call Theological Education (FCTE)
First Call Theological Education (FCTE) is a requirement for all rostered leaders in the first three years of ordained ministry.
The outcomes and objectives of FCTE are:
Equipping Leaders
Practical Skills and Tools
Emotional Intelligence
Appropriate Boundaries
Wellness and Appropriate Self-Care
Fostering Collegiality
Building a pattern of lifelong learning
The five synods of Region 2 of the ELCA participate in FCTE together. We collaborate on planning and programming and alternate hosting one event each year. Each synod also completes their own local programs for the remainder of each year.
FCTE is 50 contact hours each year. If you have spoken with the Bishop about alternatives to the synod's programming, you can find the rubric for alternative programming here.
