Third Day of ELCA Churchwide Assembly 2025
Wednesday was an emotional and action packed day! Highlights:
* We elected Bishop Yehiel Curry, (Metro Chicago Synod) as our Presiding Bishop! He is faithful, smart, has a great sense of humor and loves the church! He is our first Black Presiding Bishop of our ELCA.
* We heard greetings from Bishop Susan Johnson from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada. She shared her joy of having our Bishop Elizabeth Eaton as her colleague for the past twelve years. She also shared her concern for her church in Canada which is suffering financial feasibility issues.
*We voted YES on the Memorial to Stand for Palestinian Rights and an End to Occupation in Israel. There was a good bit of discussion around that.
* We ended our day with a peaceful candlelight vigil at the nearby Roman Catholic Church where we prayed for immigrants and refugees in our country. There were Interfaith and clergy leaders, as well as a an elected Congresswoman who decried the ways some people are being treated in our detention centers.
What a holy privilege it is to be here!
