Meet Sal Espino, The New Synod Vice President

Sal Espino stepped into the role of Synod Vice President on August 1. We are grateful for his faithful response to God's call and pray that the Holy Spirit will grant him wisdom, vision, and courage as he helps lead the Sierra Pacific Synod. May God guide him as we continue walking on the way of Jesus together.

Sal says "I've worked in student ministries for the past 17 years. I currently serve as the Youth and Family Ministries Director at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Granite Bay, California. I also serve as Region 2's Gathering Representative, on the Worship & Chaplaincy team for The Gathering, and have my own coaching business focused on grief and loss.

I was born and raised in Northern California, where my family resides. I recently moved back to California from Georgia. I'm an avid hiker, love live music, and I'm a huge hockey fan (GO SHARKS!).

My hope for my term as Vice President is to walk alongside the congregations, ministries, leaders, and volunteers of our synod with encouragement and hope as we discern together where the Spirit is leading us in this new season of ministry. I am especially passionate about inspiring young people and young adults to discover their God-given calling, embrace leadership in the Church today, and use their gifts to participate in God's renewing work in the world.
