First Day of ELCA Churchwide Assembly 2025
Today was a busy beginning to what will be a busy week. While some of our number from the Sierra Pacific Sybod areived this weekend, others flew into Phoenix today (Monday), greeted by 110 degree heat and a team of cheerful volunteers. Upon arriving to the convention center, it was hard to miss that the Westboro Baptist Church - clearly a sign that the ELCA is doing something right.
The rest of the afternoon and evening was full of work and relationship: orientation to our time together, a sermon from Bp. Eaton on the humility of God’s wisdom in the face of power-hungry domination, dinner together, and our first plenary session. During the plenary session we adopted the rules, procedures, and agenda that will govern our time together and completed the first ballot for Presiding Bishop.
