Sierra Pacific Synod, ELCA                                                                   February 4, 2010

Lutheran Social Services of Northern California (LSS) provides support in Contra Costa County, Sacramento County, San Joaquin County and San Francisco County.  LSS programs include:  Youth Housing, Family Housing, Permanent Housing for Vulnerable Youth and Seniors, Family Housing Services, Money Management, Community Services, as well as Disaster Response & Relief

This year especially, California has suffered budget cuts that have directly impacted our programs.  Most recently, one of our programs in Contra Costa County, Mi Casa, suffered a 22% budget cut.  Mi Casa currently serves ten homeless young adults and due to these cuts we will now only be able to serve six.  The majority of young adults who have come to Mi Casa are homeless due to emancipation from foster care, and lack of appropriate housing and support systems.  Without funding for these programs, we will not be able to provide the services that are needed in our communities.

LSS needs your support during these difficult times.  The support from organizations such as the Sierra Pacific Synod has been a blessing to our agency as we continue to look for the resources and funding needed to keep our programs open.

Please remember us and know that you can make a difference to the lives of others.  If you would like to make a donation or learn more about our organization and how you can help, please contact us at 925-825-1060 or visit us on the web at www.lssnorcal.org.

Sincerely,

Barbara Dröher Kline
President and CEO

BOARD OF PENSIONS HEALTH ASSESSMENT NOW OPEN

HELP EARN OUR 2% DISCOUNT!

The Board of Pensions is encouraging all Plan Members to take the 2010 Mayo Clinic Health Assessment on the EmbodyHealth web portal.  Take this assessment by April 30 and contribute toward the 65% participation our synod needs to receive a 2% discount on ELCA health contributions for 2010.  If we meet the 65% goal, our synod will save over $39,000.

The deadline to earn the 2% discount is strict -- so please take this health assessment as soon as possible.  In these difficult economic times, the 2% discount is valuable!
