CAN WE BE A 100% SYNOD?

A CHANCE TO SAVE $$$

The ELCA Board of Pensions is offering us the opportunity to earn a 2% discount on ELCA health contributions again in 2011. As in 2010, each congregation and organization in our synod will receive a 2% discount on health contributions if 65% of our eligible ELCA-primary plan members complete the confidential Mayo Clinic Health Assessment Jan. 1 - Apr. 30.

How about a challenge?  Let's not settle for 65%; let's go for 100%!

If you have ELCA-primary health coverage (spouses included), this savings depends on you. Take the 2011 Mayo Clinic Health Assessment on the EmbodyHealth web portal at elcaforwell ness.org.  We'll be one person closer to 65% 100% participation, and you'll earn $150 in your personal wellness account to offset out-of-pocket medical costs!

On New Year's Day, while you're watching a parade or a bowl game, why not pull out your laptop and complete the assessment?  If you have recent test results from your doctor, use those, but you can also use estimates.  Just click below and take the assessment!

2011 STATEMENT OF INTENT RESPONSES

As we all look forward to a New Year, one of our tasks is to make plans to receive income and pay expenses.  Please make sure that your congregation submits its 2011 Statement of Intent form as soon as possible!  This form provides our Synod Treasurer with an estimate of Mission Support (benevolence) giving for the year and supplies very important information.  Every congregation should have received a copy of the form, but if yours has "gone missing" there are three ways to get another:  1) click here for a .pdf version which can be printed; 2) email Cindi Eckert and she will mail one to you; or 3) call Cindi at 559-345-2725 x120 and she will mail one to you.

If you have already submitted your 2011 estimate of giving, THANK YOU!

ST. AUGUSTINE LECTURE AT THE BELFRY, DAVIS

The Belfry, the Lutheran Episcopal Campus Ministry at Davis, will present its 2011 St. Augustine Lecture on Wed., Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m.  Shane Claiborne, who writes and speaks extensively about social justice, peacemaking and Jesus, is the lecturer.  The lecture, a gift to the public from The Belfry, will be held in 194 Young Hall.  It promises to be thought-provoking and enjoyable.

Shane's ministry experience includes working with Mother Teresa in Calcutta, serving a megachurch near Chicago, visiting Baghdad as part of a peace mission, and co-founding The Simple Way, a faith community in inner-city Philadelphia. FELLOWSHIP OF RECOVERING LUTHERAN CLERGY

The FRLC Annual Retreat is set for Feb. 21-25, 2011 in Las Vegas, NV.  The retreat will explore the connections of the 12 Steps, the Biblical witness, theological reflec-tion, and stories of recovery, and will include meetings, worship, and reflections on the realities of sin and addiction, all in the midst of a city that is "sin"onymous with addiction.

The FRLC mission: "We provide recovery support for Lutheran clergy who suffer from alcoholism and other addictions."  FRLC members, Lutheran clergy new to recovery, and seminarians are encouraged to join colleagues who know what it's like to serve the church while maintaining sobriety and recovery.  You may register for this event here.

MAKING YOUR WORK TOGETHER MATTER: An Online Leaders' Retreat!

Sat., Feb. 12, 2011  10am-3:30pm (ET)

This day-long, online retreat is designed to help a congregation's leaders learn how to work together in life-giving, purposeful, fun ways for the sake of doing what matters to God and neighbor.  Led by Kelly Fryer and Dave Daubert of A Renewal Enterprise, this retreat is designed for church councils, boards, and other leadership teams to "attend" together.  It will be a great way for a new team to start the year off right or for an existing team to get recharged for a new year.  The cost of this retreat is just $99 for a whole team; visit here to register.
